About Australia:
The largest island in the world, Australia is home to prehistoric landscapes, bizarre creatures and a hedonistic lifestyle. Its beauty and scale, with massive tracts of deep, red desert, rolling mountain ranges, rainforest and thousands of miles of untouched sand make it a unique and unforgettable destination. Australia has many different kinds of environment and climates, from tropical in the north to cool and temperate in the south. The huge interior of Australia is mostly desert or dry grassland and has few settlements. You’ll find that most Australians live on the fertile East Coast between Brisbane and Melbourne and with a country so vast, you need to plan to take in the most of what this country has to offer. Go to Queensland for the unforgettable corals of the Great Barrier Reef, or take in the vibrant outdoor lifestyle of Sydney. From Melbourne, you'll find one of the world's great road trips, the Great Ocean Road, a spectacular stretch of highway running along the Victorian coast into South Australia. Or visit the Northern Territory to view the beauty of Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the Kati Tutu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage or Kings Canyon. Don’t forget the west coast with its deserted coastline and isolated capital, Perth. Away from the cities tour the vineyards in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, Western Australia’s Margaret River and the Ybarra Valley in Victoria. Across the water, Tasmania’s quiet rural towns are filled with convict-era Georgian architecture. Plus don’t miss its national parks like Cradle Mountain, where you can bushwalk through its gorges.
Climate:
The northern third of Australia lies in the tropics and so is warm or hot the year around. The rest of the country lies south of the tropics and has warm summers and mild or cool winters. In winter, many parts of the south have occasional frosts. But the Australian Alps and the interior of Tasmania are the only areas of the country where temperatures remain below freezing for more than a day or so at a time.
